Frequently Asked Questions:

What does “Cruise and Fly” mean?
The journey combines a Kimberley coastal cruise with air transfers at the Mitchell Plateau end of the itinerary. Depending on the direction of travel, you will either cruise from Broome and fly back, or fly from Broome to join MV Odyssey and cruise south. The included journey features a helicopter flight over Mitchell Falls and a light-aircraft transfer between the Mitchell Plateau and Broome.

Why is this eclipse special?
The 2028 eclipse is expected to be one of Australia's most significant eclipse events and will cross parts of Western Australia including remote sections of the Kimberley.

Will weather affect viewing?
The Kimberley traditionally experiences excellent dry-season conditions during July, however weather can never be guaranteed.

Are the flights within the itinerary included?
Yes. All light aircraft and helicopter transfers associated with the eclipse portion of the itinerary are included.

Is the itinerary fixed?
Expedition travel in remote environments requires flexibility. Exact locations and daily activities may vary according to weather, tides and operational considerations.

How much luggage can I bring?
The total luggage limit is 12 kilograms per person, packed in a soft-sided bag. This restriction is required for the light-aircraft and helicopter components of the journey.

Additional luggage for other parts of your holiday can be stored at Odyssey's Broome depot for the duration of the trip. If needed, please request this prior to departure.

Why Odyssey Uses Three Different Vessel Types
Exploring the Kimberley requires much more than a single vessel. The region’s dramatic tides, intricate creek systems, remote beaches and spectacular waterfalls demand different types of craft for different situations.

Odyssey serves as the comfortable expedition mothership, providing accommodation, dining facilities and all the amenities required for extended Kimberley voyages.

Homer is a purpose-built exploration vessel that allows all guests to travel together into rivers, creeks and coastal areas that are inaccessible to larger vessels.

Our tenders provide flexibility for tighter shore landings, fishing excursions, waterfall visits and wildlife viewing, allowing guests to get even closer to the Kimberley’s natural attractions.

Together, these vessels create a safer, more comfortable and more immersive expedition experience, enabling access to some of the most remote and spectacular locations in Australia.

Price Assurance

At Eclipse Travel, our expert destination knowledge and decades of travel planning experience come at no extra cost to you. While many think booking through a tour operator is more expensive than planning a trip independently, that’s not the case. We’re paid by our travel partners—such as hotels, activity operators, and cruise providers—via commissions, not by our clients.

Our team negotiates the best rates for you and ensures you receive unbiased advice, with no preference for any particular supplier. In fact, where we secure higher commissions, we often pass the savings on to you, giving us a competitive price edge.

Additionally, we lock in exchange rates at the time of your deposit, ensuring no surprise costs when it’s time for final payment. You can rest easy knowing we’ll handle the details with our suppliers. The only exceptions are national park fee increases or fuel surcharges imposed after your booking, though these are rare.

Take advantage of our team’s expertise and let us help you plan the perfect holiday—hassle-free!
